![]() The fellowship strives to enhance the educational experience by bringing outstanding journalists to campus. The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was created in 1971 by an endowment from Nelson Poynter. Jha has also written for the New Yorker, The Hindu, Himal Southasian magazine, Katmandu Post, the Nepali Times, and the International Crisis Group. His work documents the rise of identity politics, the constitutional process, and India’s engagement in Nepal.Ī champion of women, children, and marginalized peoples, Jha has written stories about child labor in Myanmar, educational opportunities for women, and free speech protests at some of India’s top universities. Jha’s book, “Battles of the New Republic - A Contemporary History of Nepal,” tells of his experience as a Nepali of Indian origin living through war and peace in his country. The South Asian Studies Council at Yale will co-sponsor his talk, “Battles of Nepali Nationalism - A Tale of Kathmandu’s Constitution, Tarai’s Resistance and Indian Diplomacy.” This event is free and open to the public. 202 of Luce Hall (34 Hillhouse Ave) as a Poynter Fellow in Journalism.
